Call Module 2026-03A/03B: Advanced renewable energy (RE) technologies for power production
Renewable electricity will play a significant role in achieving Europe’s climate neutrality and energy security objectives. Continued innovation is needed to improve the performance, sustainability and cost competitiveness of renewable power technologies and support their integration into increasingly complex energy systems.
This call module focuses on research and innovation supporting the development and system integration of next-generation renewable energy technologies for power production.
Call Modules 3A/3B share the same topic but vary in approach. Applicants can apply under Call Module 03A, supporting projects with a Research-Oriented Approach (ROA), or Call Module 03B, supporting projects with an Innovation-Oriented Approach (IOA).
Proposals should address the advancement and integration of innovative renewable power technologies. Key challenges include:
- Performance and cost competitiveness: improving efficiency, reliability, lifetime, and cost-effectiveness of renewable technologies.
- Next-generation renewable technologies: improving sustainability, reducing environmental footprint, and enhancing circularity.
- Operational excellence and resilience: increasing availability and robustness of renewable assets through advanced monitoring, predictive maintenance, and digital solutions.
- System integration and flexibility: enabling effective integration of renewable generation with storage, grids, and other energy carriers to enhance flexibility and dispatchability.
- Digitalisation and sustainability: deploying digital tools while reducing dependency on critical raw materials and improving recyclability.
Proposals may address one or more renewable power technology areas, including solar energy (PV and CSP/STE), wind energy (onshore and offshore), offshore and ocean energy, geothermal power generation, and hybrid renewable systems with storage and other energy carriers.
Proposals should demonstrate measurable progress towards competitive, sustainable and system-ready renewable power technologies and contribute to improved efficiency, reliability and cost competitiveness of renewable technologies.
Projects are expected to:
- 03A: Project start at TRL 3 or higher, project end at TRL 4.
- 03B: Project start at TRL 5 or higher, project end at TRL 6.
- Include at least one industrial partner.
