TRI 7: Integration in the built environment

Creating buildings that actively contribute to the clean energy transition

TRI 7 supports research, development and innovation actions that integrate technologies and system solutions in real building contexts. Proposals shall go beyond stand-alone component development and demonstrate integration in the built environment.

Projects may address renewable energy production, storage, digitalisation, demand management, flexibility services and the integration of buildings into present energy networks and the overall infrastructure. The initiative supports solutions for residential, commercial, public and service-related buildings.

Particular emphasis is placed on technologies that strengthen the interaction between buildings and energy systems while improving efficiency, sustainability and user experience. Solutions that support both new construction and the renovation of existing buildings are of particular importance for accelerating Europe’s clean energy transition.

Expected Impact

• Increased renewable energy integration
• Greater building energy flexibility
• Improved energy efficiency
• Enhanced interaction between buildings and energy systems
• Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
• More resilient and sustainable communities
• Progress towards climate-neutral cities and regions
