About the project

The mission is to help heavy industries move beyond simply cutting emissions and instead become climate-positive. The overall project goal of the eCO2 Industries project is to evaluate the climate-positive industry concept for three industrial sectors: cement, iron and ferroalloys, and aluminium.

This goal exists because today’s decarbonisation solutions usually focus on either switching to cleaner fuels or capturing CO2, but rarely combine both, making true net-zero and negative emissions almost impossible to achieve.

By integrating simultaneously sustainable biomass use and carbon capture technologies, eCO2 Industries aims to transform CO2-intensive industries in carbon-neutral one, as well as potentially deliver negative emissions. The project will foster this through evaluation of different integration options, technology maturation, as well as preparing the basis for potential implementation for two actual industrial sites.
