About the project
The project aims to develop and de-risk a sustainable and low-cost perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell technology, to relatively high TRL. Silicon PERC solar cell technology is applied and modified for the bottom cell; the perovskite solar cell material is solution-processed; and the use of critical raw materials is minimised.
The project will demonstrate the application and benefits of spatial atomic layer deposited thin films. The production technology is scalable to enable adoption by industrial PV producers. The tandem cells will be designed for bifacial operation with a target tandem cell performance 14% higher than single-junction bifacial silicon PERC, i.e., the same power generation as a monofacial solar cell of approximately 29% efficiency. With this power performance improvement, a potential for PV system cost reduction of more than 8% is targeted.
The project will monitor performance of tandem modules in Turkish and Dutch climates, and convert this into digital twins for PV system modelling, to de-risk and improve bankability.
