About the project

The overall objective of the AG-Power project is to develop and validate (TRL4) a high-pressure gasification technology required for the new BTC (Biomass-fired Top Cycle) system to convert agricultural waste into electricity, biochar and heat. With the BTC system, which incorporates gasification technology and a gas turbine, electrical efficiencies of up to 55 per cent and electrical yields of up to 1.4 can be achieved, depending on the scale and biochar production. AG-Power’s aim is therefore to enable bioenergy systems to deliver higher performance, a greater share of energy production and greater flexibility in terms of feedstocks, all whilst achieving negative carbon emissions.
