About the project

DigiRES is a CETPartnership-funded research and innovation project coordinated by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).

The overarching goal of DigiRES is to enable the concept of Flexibility-as-a-Service (FaaS), which can integrate a wide range of multi-energy flexibility assets and allocate optimally to accessible market services to support resilient and secure regional energy transition. As a core development of the project, Internet-of-Energy (IoE) will be developed to connect to any assets on the local and regional energy layers, facilitating the subsequent connection to different markets, using a number of connectivity methods (e.g., with an on-site gateway or via a cloud-based integration).

To harmonize local user preferences along with the regional context, this project will explore the potential use of semi/self-learning AI models that can deliver results comparable with cloud-based fully supervised AI models in prediction and optimization tasks. This novel approach addresses the privacy-preserving and cyber-security needs of the developed IoE platform, thus increasing the engagement of the end-users and the stakeholders in using FaaS. In this project, the FaaS model is not a “one-size-fits-all“ solution but is inherently adaptable and can be tailored to meet the specific requirements of distinct regional contexts, ensuring its relevance and applicability across diverse energy ecosystems.

The DigiRES project will offer demonstrations in a living lab, residential households, industrial parks, and campus buildings in three member countries.
