About the project

CHASE aims at energy efficient electrification of industry by combining the efficiency of high temperature heat pumps with latent heat thermal energy storage. This enables matching peak heat demand from start-up of processes, variable heat demand in batch processes and the ability to reduce electricity use during periods of low renewable electricity supply. This combined system solutions enable zero emission industrial process heating in the temperature range of 150-250°C.

CHASE brings together leading research institutions, industry partners, and end-users from different EU countries, contributing unique expertise and resources. This collaborative approach allows for pooling of knowledge, sharing of best practices, and leveraging of diverse technological strengths, enhancing the project’s innovation potential. The activities include testing of the heat pumps and thermal energy storages, separate and combined, at a level of approximately 100 kW, model calculations and in-depth business case analysis. The latter will be conducted in close cooperation with industrial end-users. At the end of the project insight is obtained in the real-life performance of the combined systems and their added value for the electrification of industry.
