About the project

The CladPipe4H project2 aims to develop, manufacture and test novel, cost-effective metallic material composites that can be used for the safe storage and transport of gaseous hydrogen (H2) in high-pressure applications (300 – 700 bar). The basis is the combination of a mechanically resilient base material with a hydrogen-resistant plating layer. The focus is on components such as containers, pipelines and pipelines that have to withstand high pressures and a high number of load cycles. In addition to the material evaluation in relation to mechanical properties and the behavior towards hydrogen, the focus of the investigations is on the manufacturing processes (e.g. explosion plating, forming, welding), the test methods and the understanding of microstructural effects on hydrogen embrittlement.

The international and interdisciplinary consortium brings together eight partners from five EU countries and covers the entire value chain from applied research to industrial application. The aim is to contribute to the safe, economical and sustainable use of hydrogen. The project is integrated into a pan-European funding network based on ERDF funds, in which a large number of projects are located. Coordination at European level is carried out by CET-Partnership.
